The US international striker’s representatives, led by renowned football agent Jorge Mendes, have reportedly approached Manchester United, Newcastle United, Everton, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest as they seek a fresh destination for the Monaco forward following a frustrating spell in France.
Manchester United are among several European clubs being sounded out by the representatives of United States international striker Folarin Balogun ahead of the January transfer window, as the 25-year-old considers an exit from French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
Balogun’s representatives, reportedly led by influential Portuguese football agent Jorge Mendes, have begun exploring potential destinations for the forward, with several Premier League clubs and Italian giants Juventus emerging as possible suitors.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Manchester United have been approached about the availability of the former Arsenal academy graduate as the Old Trafford outfit assesses opportunities to strengthen its attacking department during the winter transfer market.
Other English clubs reportedly contacted include Newcastle United, Everton, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.
The development comes after Balogun endured a difficult period at Monaco, where his opportunities to secure regular first-team football have significantly diminished.
The American striker was reportedly close to completing a £40m transfer to Everton during the summer transfer window. However, the proposed deal collapsed following concerns raised during his medical examination.
Although discussions between the clubs had progressed considerably, Balogun eventually decided against completing the move after becoming unhappy with the circumstances surrounding the medical process.
His decision left him at Monaco, where his position has subsequently weakened.
The 25-year-old has reportedly managed only four substitute appearances in Ligue 1 this season and has been excluded from Monaco’s European squad.
The emergence of young German forward Paris Brunner as a preferred attacking option has further complicated Balogun’s prospects of reclaiming a regular starting position.
His representatives are therefore believed to be working towards securing a January departure, with Monaco reportedly prepared to consider offers for the striker.
For Manchester United, Balogun’s availability could present an opportunity to address concerns about their attacking depth.
The Premier League giants are understood to be considering additional centre-forward options as they evaluate their recruitment priorities for the second half of the season.
Balogun’s name has consequently entered discussions at Old Trafford, although there is no indication that Manchester United have submitted a formal transfer bid or reached an agreement with Monaco.
Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is also reportedly among the players being considered by United.
Meanwhile, Everton could revisit their interest in Balogun after their unsuccessful summer pursuit. Newcastle, Leeds and Nottingham Forest have also been alerted to the striker’s availability.
Beyond England, Juventus have reportedly been approached by the player’s representatives as they explore opportunities in Italy.
Balogun’s football credentials remain attractive to potential suitors. Having developed through Arsenal’s youth system, he gained valuable experience during loan spells before moving permanently to Monaco in 2023.
He previously enjoyed an impressive spell at French club Reims, where his goalscoring performances established him as one of Europe’s promising young forwards.
His international experience with the United States national team has also enhanced his profile.
However, the immediate priority for the striker is understood to be finding a club where he can enjoy consistent playing time and rebuild his confidence.
With the January transfer window approaching, the coming weeks could prove decisive in determining whether Balogun returns to English football or pursues an opportunity elsewhere in Europe.
For Manchester United and the other interested clubs, the possibility of acquiring an experienced international striker could make the Monaco forward an interesting name to watch when the winter market opens.
