American rap superstar Jay-Z has reportedly selected himself to headline the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show, setting the stage for what could become one of the biggest moments of his celebrated music career.

According to reports published by Puck News and Deadline on Tuesday, the 25-time Grammy Award winner is expected to perform at Super Bowl LXI, scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The reported decision has attracted attention because Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has played a central role in selecting and producing the event’s halftime entertainment through his entertainment company, Roc Nation.

Roc Nation entered into a partnership with the National Football League in 2019 to help curate and produce the Super Bowl halftime show, giving the rapper significant influence over the selection of performers for one of the world’s most-watched sporting events.

If confirmed, the 2027 appearance would mark Jay-Z’s first time headlining the prestigious halftime spectacle.

The reports suggest that other artists, including pop stars Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, were considered for the coveted performance slot before Jay-Z reportedly emerged as the preferred choice.

Neither the NFL nor Roc Nation had officially confirmed the booking at the time of reporting, leaving fans waiting for an announcement that could settle the growing speculation.

The development comes as Jay-Z celebrates major milestones in his recording career. His debut album, Reasonable Doubt, marks its 30th anniversary in 2026, while his acclaimed album The Blueprint celebrates 25 years.

The rapper has also returned to the spotlight through special concert performances and projects revisiting his musical legacy, reinforcing his status as one of hip-hop’s most influential figures.

A Super Bowl appearance would provide an opportunity to showcase a catalogue spanning decades, including songs that helped establish his reputation as a defining voice in American rap.

Fans may also speculate about a possible appearance by his wife, global music superstar Beyoncé, who previously headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2013 and appeared alongside other performers in 2016. However, no guest performers have been announced.

The 2027 show would continue Roc Nation’s involvement in shaping the NFL’s entertainment strategy, following recent performances by major international artists.

For Jay-Z, taking the halftime stage would represent a rare transition from selecting the event’s biggest musical stars to becoming its central attraction.

With Jay-Z set, the next question would be who will join him as special guests. Beyoncé is a likely pick (she appeared during the Yankee Stadium leg of the tour with her spouse), with others including Nas and Pharrell Williams also part of the NYC shows.

The recent London leg at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium featured a mini-Fugees reunion with Lauryn Hill and Wyclef.

Another possibility: In May, Jay-Z joined his longtime collaborators The Roots to headline the band’s Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, their first get-together in more than a decade.
