Former United States President Joe Biden is facing an increasingly difficult health battle after his son, Hunter Biden, disclosed that the former president’s prostate cancer has spread further, causing significant pain and debilitating symptoms.
Hunter Biden made the disclosure during an interview with the BBC, offering one of the most detailed public updates on his 83-year-old father’s condition since he was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in 2025.
According to Hunter, the cancer has metastasised into his father’s bones “and further,” describing the illness as “very painful” and “very debilitating.”
The comments have renewed public attention on the former president’s health and the seriousness of his cancer.
Biden was initially diagnosed with prostate cancer in May 2025 after doctors discovered a prostate nodule while investigating increasing urinary symptoms.
His personal office announced at the time that the cancer had a Gleason score of 9, placing it in the most aggressive category, and had already metastasised to his bones.
The initial diagnosis therefore meant Biden was already dealing with metastatic prostate cancer, rather than a disease confined to the prostate.
His office said at the time that the cancer appeared to be hormone-sensitive, a characteristic that can allow doctors to manage the disease with treatments aimed at blocking hormones that fuel prostate cancer growth.
The latest disclosure from Hunter Biden indicates that the disease has progressed beyond the bone involvement previously identified.
Hunter described the situation emotionally, saying it was difficult for the family to watch his father experience the effects of the disease.
The revelation comes as Biden continues to make occasional public appearances and remain engaged with political and public affairs despite his illness.
Reports have indicated that he has undergone treatment, including hormone therapy and radiation, as doctors work to control the advanced cancer.
Prostate cancer frequently spreads to the bones when it becomes metastatic.
Bone involvement can lead to serious complications, including persistent pain, weakness and reduced mobility.
However, the course of the disease varies considerably from patient to patient, and treatment can sometimes control advanced prostate cancer for extended periods.
Biden has previously responded to his diagnosis with a message of resilience. Shortly after the announcement in 2025, he thanked Americans for their support, saying that cancer affects many families and that he and his wife, Jill Biden, had learned that they were strongest during difficult moments.
For now, the former president’s family has not publicly provided a detailed medical report specifying exactly which organs beyond the bones are affected.
Hunter Biden’s account, however, provides a sobering picture of a cancer battle that has become increasingly painful and challenging for the former president and his family.
The latest development has prompted an outpouring of concern and sympathy across the United States, with attention now focused on Biden’s treatment, comfort and quality of life as he confronts an advanced form of prostate cancer.
