The official presentation of Life Guide – Stories, Lessons and Insights to Empower Your Journey by Jide Adeyemi was more than a book launch. It was an impactful gathering of leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals and thinkers who shared practical lessons on leadership, influence, nation building and personal growth.
Held at the Nigeria Institution of Surveyors in Ikeja, the Life Guide Colloquium brought together individuals passionate about creating meaningful impact in society. The event centered on the theme of “Influence Engineering” — the intentional process of building positive influence that drives transformation.
Leadership Rooted in Love and Excellence
Chairman of the event, Chief Babajide Olatunde-Agbeja, praised the author and highlighted the relevance of the book in addressing the challenges facing Nigerians today. According to him, society has gradually moved away from the fundamental principle of loving one another, stressing that true leadership begins with compassion and service.
He explained that leadership is not merely about popularity but about the level of influence a person carries. A true leader, he noted, must be willing to “start first and finish last,” placing the needs of others ahead of personal comfort.
He also emphasized the importance of networking and relationship building, reminding participants that influence grows through meaningful connections. In his words, expanding one’s horizon is essential for growth, and excellence naturally attracts opportunities because “money loves excellence.” He challenged attendees to become people who keep their word and maintain integrity in all dealings.
Influence Engineering and the Power of Information
Keynote speaker Alibaba Akpobome delivered an engaging session on Influence Engineering. He described it as the deliberate ability to build influence that eventually creates impact.
According to him, information is one of the greatest tools for building influence. He explained that when the preferred option is unavailable, people naturally settle for what is available, making visibility and positioning very important in today’s world.
Using the biblical story of Rahab as a reference, he illustrated how strategic influence can create protection, opportunities and relevance. He advised attendees to intentionally surround themselves with people who influence them positively — individuals capable of offering guidance, correction and advice that leads to growth and progress.
Alibaba also stressed the importance of listening and teachability. Drawing from the story of Samuel and Prophet Eli, he explained that growth often begins with the willingness to listen and respond correctly to guidance.
He further encouraged young professionals and entrepreneurs to market themselves confidently and professionally. According to him, personal branding matters, and simple tools such as a proper call card containing one’s name, phone number and email address can create opportunities. He concluded by highlighting humility and attitude as key ingredients for sustainable influence and success.
Nation Building, Branding and Leadership Conversations
The colloquium also featured several panel sessions focused on national development, branding and leadership.
The first panel session centered on Nation Building, where speakers discussed the role individuals and organizations play in shaping a better society through responsibility, innovation and ethical leadership.
The second panel session explored Brand and Marketplace Wisdom for Growth. One of the key insights from the discussion was the relationship between aesthetics and functionality. Panelists explained that both elements must work hand in hand for any brand, product or service to truly succeed in the marketplace.
The final panel session focused on Leadership and Personal Clarity, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness, vision and purpose in leadership journeys
